Calibre Audio is a national charity providing an audiobook service to everyone who has a disability that makes reading print difficult. We exist to connect our members to the books they love; to provide stimulation, companionship, inclusion, learning and escape. We need skilled, motivated and brilliant people to join us in our vision of an inclusive society where everyone with a reading disability can enjoy accessible books.

We have the following vacancies open:

  • Commissioning & Editorial Coordinator

    Hours: full time, 35 hours

    Location: Office-based, Aylesbury

    Salary: £28,000

    An exciting opportunity has become available to join our Editorial Team at Calibre Audio. Working with the Director of Commissioning & Editorial, you will help research, source and co-ordinate the addition of new audiobooks to ensure our collection stays up to date and appealing to our members. You will also be responsible for liaising with volunteer and agency narrators, as well as supporting community reading groups and identifying and writing good articles to inspire our members to read more.

    Key responsibilities for this job will include:

    • To research and purchase books that would be beneficial to Calibre’s collection and sourcing books to record into audio.

    • To undertake analysis on trends in book sales to enable Calibre’s collection to be relevant, popular, and up to date.

    • Catalogue new books on the content management system and keep accurate records of bibliographic information.

    • Support Calibre’s audiobook selection and purchasing strategy for all ages, ensuring it is representative of society in terms of diversity and inclusivity.

    • To work alongside the production team in adding new books to the collection, keeping accurate records and documentation of the book production process.

    • To coordinate audiobook narrators, both volunteer and agency, to ensure Calibre has the best voices available.

    • To maintain the database of Calibre and agency narrators.

    • Support the delivery of community and Calibre-led book groups both locally and nationally.

    • To contribute relevant articles or highlight current trends that will help promote our book collection on the website, social media, blogs and podcasts, including helping to arrange interviews with authors/people of interest as required.

    Other general accountabilities include:

    • Keeping up to date with sector and industry trends, competitor activity & performance.

    • Complying with all relevant safety rules, procedures, and guidelines.

    • Ensuring quality control of all services and that they deliver to contractual requirements.

    • Contributing to making the organisation a fantastic place to work.

    Person Specification

    • Previous experience of working in a library environment.

    • A strong understanding of the book industry and emerging trends.

    • Experience of book selection and purchasing gained in a library or retail environment.

    • Experience of using a content management system.

    • Experience of cataloguing books.

    • Knowledge and/or experience of audiobook production.

    • Knowledge of copyright and publishing rights agreements.

    • Experience of facilitating book groups.

    • Excellent customer service skills.

    • Excellent attention to detail.

    • Excellent IT skills and record keeping.

    • DBS checked (we can facilitate this)
