Take part in our 2025 short story competition

Celebrating Audio, Braille, and Community

To mark this year’s HiVis Fortnight, Calibre Audio is proud to launch the Inclusive Voices short story competition – a celebration of creativity, accessibility, and diverse storytelling.

Whether you love to write poetry or prose, we’re inviting entries from people of all ages and abilities. Your challenge? Craft a story of up to 550 words that includes at least one of our key themes: Audio, Braille, and Community.

Who Can Enter?

Everyone is welcome!
We encourage entries from:

  • People with print disabilities, including current and potential Calibre members.

  • Budding writers of all ages, with or without a print disability.

  • Authors and creatives who want to help amplify underrepresented voices.

Entry Details

  • Open for entries: 1 June – 5 September 2025

  • Format: Written, video or audio entries are accepted

  • Word limit: 550 words max

  • Theme: Your story must feature Audio, Braille, or Community (or all three!)

  • Under 11s

  • 11–18s

  • 18–25s

  • Over 26s

Prizes

🏆 First Place in each category: Amazon Echo Dot
🥈 Second Place: £20 book voucher

Judging & Results

Our panel of judges – including writers, accessibility advocates and Calibre staff – will assess entries based on originality, creativity, use of theme, and authentic representation.
