Reading to boost our mental health..


Reading books has been proven to have many health benefits, from reducing stress and helping to combat memory loss, to boosting mental health. Books provide us with companionship, adventure, empathy and enjoyment and as we all find ourselves in the middle of a second period of national lockdown, it's clear that we need our books and escapism more than ever.  

But as well as providing an escape from daily life for a few hours, books can also provide us with the tools to improve our mind and wellbeing. From books on combating anxiety and worry, to self-help books on how to change your throught processes, we have some great titles in the library to assist you. Or if you prefer something a little less instructive, why not choose a book on poetry or a tale of far-flung travel so that you can spirit yourself off for a few hours to a more serene place. To help us all get through November in a healthy, happy state of mind, whether that's by learning a new skill like meditation, or just by sending a smile someone's way to improve their day, we've made a few suggestions below:
